The next SWINDON SPRING FESTIVAL – of literature and the arts will take place 8th – 17th May ‘20
Because the next national Spring Bank Holiday has been moved to Friday 8th May ‘20, to mark the 75th anniversary of V-E Day, the next Swindon Spring Festival will begin, as the sun rises, at 5.30am on Friday 8th May, with a lone piper, standing high on a stone plinth, in the town’s Lawn Woods, playing When the Battle’s O’er .
During the following 10 days, there will be more than 40 events showcasing literature and the arts, with a local, national, and international flavour!
These will include a wide variety of authors and speakers at the Arts Centre; a dance extravaganza with Swindon Dance at the Town Hall; a Tiny Plays project with Prime Theatre and BBC Wiltshire; a week of local authors events at the Central Library; a Children & Families Day at Lower Shaw Farm; a day-long writers’ workshop; outdoor events in Lawn Woods and Lydiard Park; the launch of a brilliant book, by a prize-winning author, that was uniquely commissioned and edited by Swindon reading groups; and a fabulous combined arts Festival Finale!
In terms of festival frolics in Swindon, there’s lots to look forward to in spring of the new decade! Festival Director Matt Holland said: “In Swindon, in May, we’ll be spoilt for choice. The next Swindon Spring Festival is something to get excited about. And we are!"
Because in 2020, the Swindon Spring Festival promises to be a fantastic cultural celebration. It will present a variety of thought-provoking authors, superb speakers, dizzying dancers, entertaining shows, terrific talks, perilous performers, and wonderful workshops.
