New exhibition space features local artist in Swindon town centre.

A new exhibition from Swindon artist Sue Bardwell is open at the Swindon Hub.

The first of a series of shows from local artists and photographers, the exhibition aims to bring local talent to a wider audience, and to involve more people in creative arts in the town centre.

Bardwell used ‘mixed media’ to create new and different approaches to people, portraits and nature. She loves drawing faces and bodies in unusual poses.

“I am delighted to show some of my work at Swindon’s new community Hub,” Sue said. “Getting art into the community - and everybody involved in art - are real passions of mine.”

Born and raised in Swindon, Sue studied at the School of Art on Euclid Street, going on to study Art & Aesthetic in Cardiff.

As well as her work teaching make-up and media at New College Swindon, Sue is an active member of community art group Artsite and Swindon Urban Sketchers. Her community art projects have involved parents and children, carers, people facing mental health issues, refugees and school clubs.

Exhibition organiser and Hub volunteer Josie Slade said: “Every show we have is different - we’re really excited to be launching these exhibitions that will feature Swindon artists. There’s so much local talent, and the Hub is a great place to show it. People can just pop in and look around - it’s all very relaxed.”

Based in the former River Island building in Swindon town centre, Swindon Hub offers a welcoming café, retail stands for local crafters, a community arts space as well as areas for meetings and events.

The Hub and gallery space is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm - entry is free and everyone is welcome.

Run completely by volunteers, the Hub aims to bring life to the town centre, to support communities and people from all Swindon, and to raise awareness of issues around climate and sustainability.
