Where: Swindon Arts Centre, Devizes Rd, Swindon SN1 4BJ
When: Sunday 30th April 2023, 3pm
The final concert in the 2022/23 Swindon Recital Series features a solo performance by SRS Founder and Artistic Director Paul Turner.
Paul brings our overall theme of Bohemian Rhapsodies to a satisfying conclusion with pieces by several well-known composers as well as a World Première.
The pieces include Liszt’s Six Consolations with their qualities of melancholy and introspection; Dusseks’s Sonatina, a spirited and charming composition; from Rachmaninov’s Morceaux de Fantasie the Prelude, written at age 19 as a graduation work and now one of his most famous pieces, Melody and Elegy; and Rubinstein’s very recognisable Melody in F.
The World Première is a composition called ‘Roads to Freedom’. Written by Anastasia Pavlyk, who is of Ukrainian heritage, this suite of five pieces is a response to the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. It was composed over several months and reflects the impact of war on the ordinary people of Ukraine.
Paul Turner is an Honours graduate and an elected Associate of the Royal Academy of Music where his many prizes and awards culminated in the Queen’s Commendation for Excellence and the Peter Pears Accompaniment Prize. An experienced recitalist he has appeared at London’s leading venues and major UK festivals. He has given concerts in Europe and South America and worked with eminent singers and instrumentalists.
